Wildfires are raging across southern Europe as a heatwave grips the continent, with several countries battling to contain the spread of flames. In Spain, fires have engulfed neighbourhoods near Madrid, forcing evacuations, while Portugal has deployed nearly 2,000 firefighters to combat three major blazes fanned by strong winds and scorching temperatures. The situation is equally dire in Montenegro, where residents of Pipperi have returned to find their homes and livelihoods destroyed. As climate change accelerates, Europe faces increasingly frequent and intense fire seasons, posing grave risks to communities and testing the limits of firefighting resources.
