Australia’s recognition of Palestine is ‘theatrical’ while arms trade with Israel remains: Analysis

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has brushed off accusations from Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu that he’s a “weak politician who has betrayed Israel.”
The comments were made after Australia’s decision to move towards recognising a Palestinian state, at the UN General Assembly next month.
Australian Home Affairs minister Tony Burke defended his country’s position.

Antony Loewenstein, the author of The Palestine Laboratory, a book about Israel’s arms and surveillance industry, has told Al Jazeera from Australia’s Sydney that “a lot of” the latest diplomatic spat between Israel and Australia was “theatre”.
