‘All options open’: Analyst explains US-Iran ‘constructive ambiguity’ strategy

Tim Constantine, writer for The Washington Times and host of The Capitol Hill Show, told Al Jazeera that uncertainty defines the current US-Iran situation.
He said both sides are preparing for all scenarios, describing military build-up alongside diplomacy as “prudent planning”.
Constantine added that even limited indirect communication between Washington and Tehran should be viewed as progress.
He described the approach as “constructive ambiguity”, aimed at keeping options open and confusing adversaries.
From Donald Trump’s perspective, he said success would require achieving key objectives, including a nuclear-free Iran.
He noted widespread public opposition to the Iran war in the US but said its political impact remains uncertain.
Constantine argued Iran has failed to shift global opinion against the US, with many countries criticising Tehran.
He also said Iran’s negotiating demands are unrealistic and hinder the chances of any agreement.
