Over 50 per cent of engagement rings in the US feature lab-grown diamonds, many of which originate on a factory floor in China. As the synthetic stones grow in popularity, the natural diamond industry, with companies like De Beers at its centre, is fighting back. They are slamming lab-grown diamonds, which cost a fraction of their natural counterparts, as fakes and dupes. But consumers continue to flock to lab-grown diamonds, which are growing cheaper and more accessible.
