Peru’s Congress ousts President Jose Jeri over corruption allegations

Peru’s Congress has voted to remove President Jose Jeri from office following corruption allegations, including reports of secret meetings with a Chinese associate holding government contracts and encounters with nine young women who later received state deals.
The 39-year-old leader, who took office in October after Dina Boluarte’s dismissal, was ousted in under four hours without being called to testify.
Jeri becomes Peru’s seventh president to be removed in nine years, deepening the country’s political crisis just two months before general elections.
Congress currently holds a 4% approval rating among Peruvians.
