It is 30 years – yes, THREE DECADES – since the first Pokémon games were released in Japan.
Pocket Monsters Red and Green were the world’s first introduction to the amazing world of Pokémon – way back on February 27, 1996.
To mark the anniversary, BBC Newsbeat’s Georgia Levy-Collins sat down to talk to four fans from different generations to find about their love for the franchise, the impact it has had on their lives and why they think it’s lasted 30 years.
Georgia also spoke to Monique Budden, a card collector and Pokémon content creator about the impact of celebrities on the franchise and how it’s “bittersweet”.
