Sandstorm worsens hardship for Gaza’s displaced residents amid damaged infrastructure

A severe sandstorm has swept across Gaza, worsening conditions for displaced residents struggling to survive in damaged homes and fragile tents. The storm has posed serious health risks, particularly for people with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, who have faced life-threatening breathing difficulties. Civil defence crews continue to respond to distress calls, clearing hazards and assisting families whose shelters were destroyed, though their capacity remains limited. The UN reports that nearly 80 per cent of Gaza’s buildings have been damaged or destroyed, leaving 90 per cent of the population displaced and exposed to harsh weather and the continuing effects of war.

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim al-Khalili reports from Gaza City, Palestine.
